NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team lost to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 77-68 Saturday evening at Allen Arena A frustrating second half saw Lipscomb lose a 16-point lead early in the second period, the fifth double-digit this year that Lipscomb has gone on to lose. The Bisons had three players score in double figures, including junior center Ahsan Asadullah with 18 points and guards Trae Benham and Greg Jones with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Asadullah was on the cusp of another double-double with 9 rebounds, tying Mt. Juliet native Will Pruitt with the most rebounds for the team. Asadullah scored 13 of his 18 points in Lipscomb’s efficient first half, and was complemented well with scoring from Jones and Benham throughout the game. Jones made four 3-pointers and Benham brought a spark to the starting lineup by going 6-13 from field goal range and 3-7 from three-point range. Asadullah started his game off strong in the paint and Lipscomb continued to shine bright. Benham made a fast break 3-pointer and a driving layup late in the half to take a 45-29 lead, the largest in the game for the Bisons. However, the commanding lead for the Bisons dwindled in the second half. Lipscomb’s shot percentage in the first half of 51.4% on field goals and 50% from the three point line would drop drastically to 22.9% and 11.8% respectively. Led by point guard Tavian Dunn-Martin and his 22 points, the Eagles came roaring back. After Lipscomb out-scored the Eagles by 14 points in the first half, FGCU responded by scoring 23 more points in the second half. FGCU went...

With two of the six matches going into three sets, the Bisons cheered on their teammates as Kate Popova and Liza Diachenko, both born in Ukraine, competed in their final set. NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team dropped their third straight game to the Stetson Hatters by a score of 61-50 Thursday night at Allen Arena. Despite a season-high 20 points from sophomore guard Jalyn Holcomb, the Bisons’ 16-point comeback bid in the 4th quarter came up short. A closely contested game in the first four minutes was thanks to a strong defensive affair on both sides of the ball. Despite the Bisons shooting 44.4% from the field, they trailed most of the quarter. Stetson took an 8-0 run due to a total of six turnovers by the Bisons in the first quarter. Sydney Shelton, the transfer from Butler, cut the Stetson lead to one point, and after free throws by Sophomore Diana Saleh, and a forced shot clock violation, Lipscomb held the lead at 13-12. Senior guard Yazz Wazeerud-Din continued to shoot well for Stetson from three-point land, and led the half with 11 points. Despite her big numbers in the half, the second quarter was a defensive slug-fest. Lipscomb only scored 7 points in the quarter, but Jalyn Holcomb, a native of Murfreesboro, ended a scoring drought with a layup and then a three pointer to follow a Stetson make from behind the arc. At half, Stetson led 23-20 with both teams shooting 4-11 from three and Lipscomb edging out Stetson in field goal percentage at 31.8% to the Hatters’ 27.6% Assistant coach Chris Sumski felt there was a dichotomy in the Bisons’ play. “I feel like we really battled the defensive speed,” Sumski said, “[but] I think offensively we had some struggles to make important threes and...

The Lipscomb Bisons fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins with a final score of 66-59 Thursday night at Swisher Gymnasium in Jacksonville, Florida. Looking to continue a winning streak, the Bisons played tough against a Jacksonville team that had lost their last three games. Guard Greg Jones led the team with 14 points which included 4 made 3-pointers. Point guard KJ Johnson and freshmen Will Pruitt and Jacob Ognacevic all scored in double digits as well, each scoring 10 points. Ognacevic shot an efficient 4-5 on field goals and 2-3 from three-point range. Ahsan Asadullah, a center from Atlanta, GA, brought in a team high 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 assists, tying Johnson for the top assists on the night. The Bisons led 39-35 at the half thanks to high shot percentages from both the field (58.3%) and from 3-point range (50%). Lipscomb led a majority of the half with 7 points being the highest lead in that span. Despite the shooting success in the first half, Lipscomb struggled to convert that same momentum in the following half. Lipscomb was only able to cash in 20 points in the 2nd half with a field goal percentage of 29.6% and from going only 2-15 from 3 point range. Jacksonville in return shot 5-10 from three in the half and maintained the lead for the last 14:56. Junior Kevion Nolan from Jacksonville led the game with 15 points respectively. The game was very close throughout with 7 ties and 5 lead changes. However, the difference in this close contest was that Lipscomb was not able to score enough in the final...

The Lipscomb women’s basketball team came out with a 61-53 home win at Allen Arena to get back on track in conference play against Kennesaw State. After a tough 36-point loss at Eastern Kentucky, Lipscomb looked to move forward in front of their home fans against the Owls from Georgia. Kennesaw State started off strong in the 1st quarter, taking a 14-7 lead. The Bisons went 0-10 from the 3-point line and struggled getting points in the paint as well against a stout KSU defense. Lipscomb did cut the lead to 3 after a stellar block by redshirt junior Maddie Cook, which led to a fast break score by freshman Bella Vinson, but KSU rallied to put the score at 14-7. Kennesaw State continued to shoot a high percentage on the court in the 2nd quarter, but Alexis Poole, who led the Owls with 6 points at the time, left the game with an ankle injury. Poole would return later in the quarter, but the Bisons finally found a spark on offense soon after. Sydney Shelton, a redshirt senior and Butler transfer, started her strong 2nd quarter by breaking the missed 3-point streak with back to back threes, and sophomore guard Blythe Pearson hit the Bisons’ third 3-ball to cut the lead to 3. Shelton continued her strong performance with a kick back assist to sophomore Jalyn Holcomb for 3 followed by a fast break bucket after a steal by St. Louis native Jordan Peete. Shelton, a native of Greenfield, Indiana, finished the half with 13 points and Lipscomb shot efficiently to tally 28 points in the 2nd quarter....
