The Bisons finished the first half with a score of 50-27. Early into the second half, Cary stole one from the Pioneers and slammed it in for the Bisons, then Hazen swatted the ball again from the Pioneers, Cary retrieved it and passed it to Ferguson, scoring again for the Bisons. The Lipscomb womens basketball team won their third home game of the week 82-60 Friday afternoon against the Converse College after taking advantage of the Valkyries turnovers improving their record to 3-1. The Lady Bisons got off to another fast start against the Valkryies leading 7-0, but in what has been a season of runs for Lipscomb, the Bisons quickly lost their lead as Converse went on a 10-2 run aided by Lipscomb turnovers. Lipscomb was able to recover the lead behind senior forward Taylor Clark’s second three of the first quarter, and shots from junior guard Sydney Shelton and freshman guard Jordan Peete padded the lead for the Lady Bisons going into the second quarter. Missed shots and turnovers allowed the Valkryies to stay close, but Lipscomb would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the first half, leading at the break by eight points off of 10 second quarter turnovers from Converse. Coming back from the half, Lipscomb began to take advantage in transition offense, holding the height advantage over the guard heavy Converse roster. Points in the paint from sophomore center Dorie Harrison and a shot from downtown by Clark finally provided some separation for the Lady Bisons, who extended their lead to 15 points before the media break. The Valkyries held Lipscomb without a field goal for three minutes, but continued turnovers and fouls kept the Lady Bisons ahead by 15 at the end of the third quarter. Lipscomb continued to take advantage of Converse turnovers finishing the day with 33 points off of 28 turnovers. Starting the fourth quarter, Lipscomb went on...

After last minute cancellations and rescheduling, Lipscomb women’s basketball hosted the Morehead State Eagles in a Thursday afternoon matinee matchup and survived a series of runs to pull off the 79-73 win. In a game that involved a total of six lead changes and three ties, Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead 11-2 going into the first media break. The Eagles quickly adjusted to a full court press which forced seven early turnovers from the Bisons, and Morehead State took the lead into the second quarter. Lipscomb head coach Lauren Sumski said, “I wish we could have gotten rid of the last five minutes of the first quarter.” The Eagles continued their scoring, including a couple uncharacteristic threes, to complete the 19 point turnaround. Morehead State then led the Bisons by nine, before Lipscomb switched to a zone defense and went on a 19-0 run of their own, led by key shots from redshirt junior guard Sydney Shelton, who shot her 14 points in the first half. The Bisons’ success from their second quarter changes marked a big change from a year ago. Coach Sumski attributed the 19-0 run to her girls doing a really good job sticking with and trusting the plan. “Basketball is a game of runs,” said senior forward Taylor Clark. “Our biggest growth from last year to this year is withstanding runs.” But it was the Eagles who came out stronger in the second half rapidly cutting into the Bisons’ 12 point with an 8-0 before taking a five point lead of their own into the fourth quarter, led by junior forward Ellie Jo...

Lipscomb came up with a crosstown split when they battled two local rivals in three nights, finishing off the homestand with a 61-45 victory over Trevecca Tuesday. It was some consolation for the Bisons who fell, 81-71, to Belmont Saturday night. Ahsan Asadullah and KJ Johnson combined for 45 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Belmont game, the only “Battle of the Boulevard” game this season. While the Belmont game was nip-and-tuck, Lipscomb started hot against Trevecca. The Bisons took the lead, 13-5 in the first 14 minutes of the game. The Trojans battled to keep it close, but after a three-pointer from Carson Carry, and free throws from Johnson and Asadullah there was no stopping the Bisons. The lead continued to grow throughout the first half, ending the half with a 31-21 advantage, even after coach Lennie Acuff used virtually the whole bench in the period. Early in the second half, the Trojans got within six points of the Bisons. The Bisons pulled back ahead in a 7-0 scoring streak, gaining a 13-point advantage over the Trojans. The Bisons maintained that lead for a entirety of the game including several hot shooting streaks from KJ Johnson and Jake Wolfe. The Bisons finished the two-game home stand with their rivals with the season’s second-lowest shooting percentage, 37.5, against Trevecca. The 3-5 Bisons will play CROWLEY’S RIDGE at 7 p.m. Monday, December 21, at Allen Arena. It will be streamed on...

The Bisons took on the Southeast Missouri Redhawks in their home opener Wednesday and pulled off an impressive 80-74 win in overtime, behind a career performance from sophomore guard Jake Wolfe. The first half went back and forth for the first 13 minutes until the Bisons got hot and finished the first half with a 32-22 advantage. Early in the second half, the Bisons had their biggest lead of the night, 40-25, over the Redhawks. The lead quickly began to slip away from the Bisons almost as quickly as they gained it. The Bisons found themselves down 9 with 6:11 left in the game, but Wolfe found himself on the line 6 times over the next minute and a half and hit every shot to give the Bisons a chance late. With 50 seconds left in regulation, Lipscomb was down four, and Wolfe hit a free throw and a layup making it a one-possession game. SEMO sophomore guard Jordan Love was then fouled with 11 seconds left where he made just 1-of-2, keeping the score within reach for the Bisons 63-60. Once again Wolfe proved to be the hero for the Bisons, as he hit a buzzer-beater three to force overtime. The unbelievable play even garnered national attention, making an appearance on ESPN’s Sportscenter Top 10. During the overtime, Lipscomb junior guard Greg Jones hit a three with 2:30 left, and the Bisons kicked up the defense, setting the tone for the final minutes of regulation with a final score of 80-74. Wolfe finished the night with a career-high 26 points, including 21 points in the second half and overtime....

Tuesday night Nashville SC beat Toronto FC 1-0 in extra time in the first round of the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Many did not expect Nashville SC to make it to the playoffs, but after beating Inter Miami 3-0 in the play-in game last week, the expansion franchise, playing in their first year in the MLS, proved they are legitimate contenders for the 2020 MLS Championship. Against Toronto, Nashville fell behind in the possession battle, controlling the ball only 38% of the time, but proved to be more efficient in their possessions, outshooting Toronto 21-12. Four of those shots reached the back of the net, but three were waved off due to offsides penalties, including two shots by Nashville SC forward Jhonder Cadiz in the 13th and 54th minutes. After the full 90 minutes of regulation, the teams went into extra time. In the MLS playoff format, the two sides play two 15 minute halves of extra time, followed by penalty kicks if necessary. There is no golden goal in this format. Penalty kicks would end up being unnecessary as Nashville SC forward Daniel Rios scored in the 108th minute. This is the fourth goal of the season for Rios, but this goal proves to be the most important thus far. After Rios’s goal, Nashville held on for the remaining 12 minutes to clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Nashville SC will play Columbus Crew SC the third ranked team in the Eastern Conference on Sunday, November, 29th in the Cup quarterfinals. Nashville SC becomes only the second expansion team to advance this far in their...
