Allen Arena was crowded with predominantly Bison fans for Thursday night’s edition of the Battle of the Boulevard. But the Belmont faithful traveled two miles down the road, took over a couple of sections and made their presence known. The trip down Belmont Boulevard paid off, as the Bruins (3-0) beat the Bisons (2-1) by a score of 87-83. The Bisons nearly overcame a 19-point deficit, but a late-game turnover with nine seconds left prevented that from happening. “They didn’t do anything at all that surprised us,” Lipscomb coach Casey Alexander said. “And I’m sure we didn’t do anything at all that surprised them. That’s just…it’s a matter of who executes the best, and that’s usually the team that wins.” Senior guard Garrison Mathews finished with a team-high 27 points for Lipscomb. Photo gallery by Mckenzi Harris The Bisons topped Tennessee State by a score of 86-79 at Allen Arena as Lipscomb alumni and fans descended on campus for Homecoming Weekend. “[TSU] really played with more passion and energy than we did for a lot of the night,” Lipscomb coach Casey Alexander said. “But I give our guys great credit for just staying with it in a tough game where it wasn’t smooth and [still] finding a way to win.” In addition to the Homecoming basketball game, festivities included a Homecoming Parade on Friday afternoon, various reunion events, a tailgate before the Homecoming game and more. Featured image by Mckenzi Harris Lipscomb hosted its 1st annual Homecoming parade to kick off the Homecoming festivities. The parade started from behind McFarland and traveled all around campus, stopping at Allen Circle. As students waited for the parade to circle through outside of High Rise, student life provided drinks, cheeseburgers and hot dogs for everyone to eat along with boxed chips and cookies to munch on as well. The parade consisted of cars, pickup trucks, scooters — you name it — filled with people and signs telling who they were representing or what their theme was. Social clubs, SGA, campus-wide clubs, including the RA’s within Residential Life, the College of Education, Leading Edge, the IDEAL program, the Biology department and more, participated in the parade with homemade floats. Tomorrow there is also a tailgate from 12-2:30 p.m. before the men’s basketball game vs. TSU at 3 p.m. There is a contest among the clubs going on; whoever is the most creative with its tailgate and parade float wins $500. Lipscomb welcomed some of the biggest names in Christian music for the 49th Annual GMA Dove Awards Tuesday for a night of celebrating music and worshiping God. For King and Country kicked off the evening with a performance from their new album Burn the Ships, which just reached No. 7 on the Gospel Music Chart. Joel and Luke Smallbone spoke on the inspiration for the album and how important it is to know when to move on. Despite the heavy topic, the pair hope to create a dynamic show. “Art is meant to be creative and lawless and exciting,” Joel Smallbone said. “Hopefully with the show and with the record you feel that sense.” Ready the full story here.   « ‹ of 3 ›...
