Losing seven games in a row typically doesn’t equate to a championship season, especially when a team’s schedule only includes 16 regular season games. However, that narrative exactly describes how the Lipscomb men’s soccer season played out. Despite a forgettable start, the Bisons are in Seattle to make their second-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance on Thursday night against Washington. “Looking back at the season… it was all fun,” Lipscomb coach Charles Morrow said at Monday’s NCAA selection show watch party. “That’s something we sort of preach in our program. This is a game and it’s meant to be fun, but there were some trying days in that stretch. For the guys to have the resiliency and perseverance that they did was really, really impressive.” The Bisons went 1-7 in their first eight games, including a seven-match skid that began in August and continued until late September. “It was a rough start,” Lipscomb senior forward Logan Paynter said. “[We had] a lot of new guys and knew it wasn’t going to be easy, so we just knew we had to keep learning and keep growing.” The tough beginning was somewhat expected after losing 10 seniors to graduation, including key cogs like forwards Ivan Alvarado and Ivan Sakou, midfielders Eduardo Reza and Kyle Smith, and defenders Cameron Botes and Joe Kerridge. But there were some silver linings during that losing streak. Five of the seven losses were by just one goal each, and two of the defeats came in overtime to No. 7 Kentucky and Jacksonville. “Coming out of last year and losing 10 guys, you know there’s going to be a...

A 59-year old man reportedly walked into High Rise early Tuesday morning, stole a wallet from a student’s dorm room and was apprehended by Metro Police. The man, identified as Alexander Baxter, is not a student, Metro Police said. University spokesperson Kim Chaudoin issued the following statement to Lumination Network via email. “The safety and security of our students is a top priority. As such, we have a number of measures in place to try to make the campus as safe as possible. In this instance those measures helped us quickly respond to the situation, alert the Metro Nashville Police Department and to apprehend the suspect without physical harm to any student. In addition to the safety measures the university has in place, it is also important for students to remember to practice good personal safety and awareness by locking their dorm room doors and not propping open outside doors leading into the dorm.” This story is developing. This story has been updated to add Chaudoin’s...

Lipscomb students had the opportunity to hear from Nashville Public Radio’s Emily Siner at the Media Masters event Monday evening. Siner is the news director at Nashville Public Radio and the host of the Movers & Thinkers podcast. Students received free pizza for attending the event. Siner started her career as a reporter, but then she came up with the idea to do a podcast. One podcast idea that Emily wanted to do was on the topic of death and dying. “I’m really fascinated how people are drawn to certain careers and how those professions shape the way that they see the world,” she said. “I often interview three people at once, all about the same topic, that I am just personally fascinated by and I’ll find three people whose work falls under that but in different ways.” This is exactly what she did. She spoke to three people who work in fields adjacent to death and dying about how they got to where they are. Siner was recently named the Associated Press Radio Journalist of the Year and has received three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for her reporting. Students asked Siner throughout the evening about her career and for stories from her podcasts. But she wanted students to grasp the importance of editing audio. She said that this is something “that will make or break your podcast.” She also told students that, “expensive equipment isn’t necessary, your iPhone will work just as well, just make sure you’re in a quiet room.” As the evening came to a close, Siner encouraged students to take pride in their audio. “We...

Next Thursday, the Lipscomb doors will be quiet and dark as we disperse to warm, cozy homes filled with cornucopias and pumpkin-scented candles. Some of us may just be looking forward to the comfort of our own bed, the chance to shop til we drop on Black Friday, and the opportunity to spend time with family and breathe for once, escaping from the everyday stresses of college for a little while. But most of us girls have one stress on our mind — what to wear to Thanksgiving dinner. I often think about why we spend so much time dressing up to eat with our families when it’s something that we have done thousands of times throughout our lives. Tonight one of my friends explained the logic of it to me. “You’ve got to look your best and show them how great you’re doing when they ask you how your life’s going,” she said. And it’s the truth. Perhaps the reason that we spend so much time focusing on what to wear to the dining room table is because we want our relatives to see that we are thriving: that we are put together and still rocking stylish outfits (when in reality it’s leggings and tees to class all day, every day). Still, though, we want to look cute (I know I do) for the hundreds of pictures my sweet grandmas will be taking of all of us together. Might as well look pretty in the photos if they’re going in the frames or on Facebook. Therefore, here are some tips for how to dress your best for Thanksgiving...

The Lipscomb men’s soccer team is heading the Pacific Northwest for its second NCAA tournament appearance. During Monday’s NCAA Selection Show, the Bisons learned that their first-round opponent will be the Washington Huskies. The match is set for Thursday at 9:00 p.m. CT in Seattle. “It’s great to still be going and still be a part of all of this,” Lipscomb senior forward Logan Paynter said. “I haven’t been to the Pacific Northwest and I don’t know much about [Washington], but [I’m] super excited to get out there and go play a game.” Lipscomb (9-9) began its season with a dismal 1-7 record, but the team made a miraculous turnaround to win eight of their final 10 matches. That stretch included upsets of No. 10 Louisville and No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast. In Saturday night’s ASUN title game, the Bisons defeated Stetson, 2-0. Paynter set the school record for goals by scoring the 34th and 35th tallies of his career. Lipscomb dropped a 2-0 contest at Butler in its NCAA tournament debut last season. Lipscomb coach Charles Morrow said he believes the lessons learned from that loss will help the Bisons in their second-straight postseason appearance. “[Butler] was a team that could have gotten a bye in the first round,” Morrow said. “I think that, while Washington will be just as strong, I really feel like the guys have more belief and more confidence in themselves this year.” Washington (12-7) is making its sixth NCAA tournament appearance under coach Jamie Clark, and the Huskies have a 12-23-2 all-time record in tournament play. Senior forward Scott Menzies leads the team with nine goals....
