There comes a time in every man’s life when he has to wear a suit. However, wearing a suit is a far more complex task than many perceive it to be. The majority of men have no idea what they’re doing as they simply go out and purchase a suit with no thought, especially college students. So here are five simple rules to make wearing a suit a memorable experience, whatever the occasion — because there is nothing wrong with having a little edge. The suit: If you speak to a tailor or anyone in the fashion industry, and ask him or her the most important aspect when it comes to wearing a suit, tailors will most definitely say the fit, 100% of the time. It doesn’t matter if your suit is made from the finest Italian fabric or diamonds, if it doesn’t compliment your body, it can make you look sloppy and unprofessional. You can easily make a $100 suit look like a $1,000 suit just by fine-tuning all the little details of a suit in order to fit your body nicely. Belt and shoes: When wearing a suit, combine it with a nice pair of dress shoes and a belt. Shoes, and belts come in different colors, shapes and sizes. The general rule for shoes is that they must match the belt in color. The pocket square: A pocket square adds a new level of style and polish but make sure it does not match your tie in either pattern or material. It should simply complement your shirt, and tie. Be creative with the pocket square, from...

Welcome back to the second rendition of LU’s GQ. With the world of fashion constantly changing and evolving, comfort has become the most sought out desire in the community. It is one thing to be fashionable, and another to be comfortable at home all cuddled up in cozy attire. But what if I told you that there is now a place where both these parallels meet? It’s called Athleisure. It started off with women in yoga pants, who went about their day in them. It slowly transitioned toward men, who wanted to be comfortable to go places or work, too. Athleisure is an urban definition created by todays millennials, where style and comfort meet while being stylish. Pieces like hoodies, track pants, sweatpants, joggers, hats and T-shirts are being incorporated into the normal work or daily outfits. You can even wear a hoodie with a sports coat and suit blazer and make it work! Celebrities and athletes are also huge advocates for Athleisure as they constantly fight the line between classic fashion pieces with sweatpants and sneakers. It is no longer a shame to wear sweatpants or hoodies in public. But it has to be done properly — otherwise the grunge look comes out, where it does not look you are trying at all. That’s not what we’re after. So, students of Lipscomb, I have compiled a few ideas and people who have showcased Athleisure. Here is how you can pull it off as well! Student Louis Robinson is the walking personification of Athleisure. From head to toe in classic name brands, making him an instant head turner on...

LU’s GQ is a new biweekly series from Lipscomb senior George Wong, who looks at stylish clothing options for men. Wong’s column alternates weeks with Rachel Pavelich’s blog, The Northern Southern Belle. With January’s freezing-cold weather coming to an end, we transition to an unpredictable February. Every male college student has to decide whether to put on everything they have in their closet in to stay warm and disregard style, or risk getting hypothermia but still look fashionable. Stress no longer! The great aspect of clothing is that is completely personal, there are so many clothes to choose from, outfits to curate and people to impress. Fashion will always be timeless, but style is unique to every individual. Guys have it slightly easier than females in the sense we have a lot less to choose from. Here is a list of Lipscomb students who have displayed great style while still staying warm: Jordan Brumbelow: white sweater, Nike track pants, Vans A sweater is not only great for keeping you warm and cozy, but is also stylish and elegant. It’s definitely a timeless piece in every young man’s closet. I would recommend simple colors such as white and black. However, this is something you can make pop with trending colors such as earthy tones, or if you are wanting to be bold, with red, yellow or orange. Dane Mortensen: denim shirt, band tee, black jeans, high-tops If it is a slightly warmer day that requires no knitwear, then Mortenson is the man to follow. No one can go wrong with a band tee accompanied with...

Lipscomb’s school of music hosted its first student concert of the year Monday night, where the University Wind Ensemble performed at Collins Auditorium. Dr. Benjamen Blasko who was both host and conductor of the event displayed a contagious passion for the music being performed. Blasko, who recently moved to Nashville from the University of Dubuque in Iowa, is now Lipscomb’s newest director of bands, and instrumental studies. “This is the first concert directed by Dr. Benjamen Blasko,” junior choral music education major Payton Dishman said. “He’s new, so this is something that none of us know what to expect. It’s all new and exciting, we all can’t wait to hear it.” The concert began with Awaken Fanfare, which was a dramatic entry that set the tone for the rest of the night. A Little Three Penny Music I and II would be a Jazz inspired piece that was heartfelt, jubilant and playful. The Wind Ensemble would then go on to spice up the event with Strange Humors. “(It) has as a Middle Eastern flare and is quite aggressive,” said Benjamen Blasko after the engaging performance that utilized drums. Music students Ben Van Maarth on the guitar and Piper Smith on the electric bass were featured in the concerts final piece “Chaos Theory,” which was be a epic marriage of heavy metal and classical music that left the crowd in a standing ovation. The band then closed out the night by playing “Amazing Grace,” where the crowd joined in song. Blasko emphasized his want for communion, and unity through music at the beginning. The night finished with food being provided...

The Lipscomb men’s baseball team officially began its much anticipated season over the weekend with a 2-1 series victory over Oakland University. The Bisons hosted the Oakland Grizzlies with a three-day series starting on Friday at the Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Marsh Stadium. After a slow start during the opening game, the Bisons got into rhythm and won the first game with a 7-3 win. The second series was a much closer affair; the Bisons would edge past the Grizzlies 3-2 after junior Lee Solomons scored two home runs to seal the deal. The third and final game would be an epic and high scoring encounter with Oakland, giving plenty of fight. Lipscomb was unable to recover from an early deficit and eventually succumbed to the Grizzlies pressure in a 16-11 slugfest. The Bisons will face Middle Tennessee with a mid-week matchup beginning Tuesday at Dugan Field before hosting the Mule Mix Classic next weekend. Photo courtesy of Lipscomb...
