The Northern Southern Belle: How to be fashionable while participating in the athleisure trend Ever since lockdowns kept us all cooped up inside, the desire to wear sweats or leggings and stay comfortable has exponentially risen. Quarantining in bright leggings and comfy jackets have skyrocketed the athleisure trend, which was already taking shape in 2019 but is not expected to go away anytime soon. I’m all about being comfortable. I come home from work or class and am eager to put on a pair of comfy leggings and a tee-shirt, and many mornings I’m tempted to let that be my daily wardrobe choice. However, while I enjoy the comfort of this new fashion fascination, I do not want to lose my personal style in the shuffle of it. So, with that being said, I would love to suggest some ideas on how you can keep your style while remaining comfortable and feeling relaxed. I am a huge dress girl. I love wearing dresses, especially when the weather is starting to change as it is now. While it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of athleisure, I believe that knit swing dresses are a perfectly good option for the trend. They’re lightweight and easy to wear, do not require much thinking when it comes to putting together an outfit, and they are super cute! Some of my favorites are from Loft, but Old Navy and Nordstrom offer a variety as well, and the price range for these three stores is pretty broad, so you have plenty of options. If you’re not on board...

On March 3, 2020, the No. 3-seeded Lipscomb men’s basketball team beat No. 6 FGCU 68-63 off a 40-point effort from center Ahsan Asadullah. The game was played in Nashville less than 24 hours after a devastating tornado struck Middle Tennessee. So many things have changed since then, and I don’t even think I have to tell you what all of them are. But this year’s edition of the ASUN men’s basketball tournament will be single-city (as will the women’s), with teams participating on the campuses of Jacksonville University and North Florida, both located in Jacksonville. Much like last season, the Bisons (15-11, 9-6 ASUN) once again hold the three seed, with the Eagles (9-7, 4-5 ASUN) taking up the No. 6 spot. Neither team has played a full 16-game conference slate, although FGCU’s cancellation-littered schedule is more notable. The game is scheduled for Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT, to be played in Swisher Gymnasium at JU. Disappointment is really the first thing that comes to mind for how the Bisons’ season went. They were picked to win their conference (which could still happen in the tournament) but now sit behind Liberty and Division I newcomer Bellarmine. Inconsistent play and the inability to hold large leads have created headaches for this squad all season long. Redshirt junior Ahsan Asadullah is once again the leading scorer at 14.2 points per game, but he had a slow start to the season before putting up bigger numbers late. Grad transfer Romeao Ferguson adds 13.6 points per game at the shooting guard position, and sophomore guard KJ Johnson is the lone other...

Four straight sweeps, a combined score of 22-4 in set victories against ASUN opponents and a stacked roster with talented players across all academic classifications. That’s the story this season for the Lady Bisons, highlighted by a 3-0 blanketing over North Alabama in Allen Arena on Wednesday night. Lipscomb is now 10-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play, while UNA drops to 1-8 (1-7 ASUN). Senior Megan Kuper led the way for the Bisons with 14 kills in Allen Arena, while four Lions tied at the team lead with four. Lipscomb set the tone early with a 4-0 lead in the first set and was aided by runs of 7-0, 4-0 and 5-0 to take the first installment 25-10. It seemed like UNA was unable to put up a fight, but the Lions caused trouble for the Bisons in the second set, taking an 8-4 lead off a bad set from Lipscomb freshman Delaney Smith. A 5-0 run from Lipscomb gave the Bisons the lead before both teams settled on trading leads. While ahead 14-13, Lipscomb ran away with a 6-0 run, capped by a Kuper kill. Lipscomb won the second set 25-17. UNA led the final set 8-2 before Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal called a timeout. Lipscomb broke away with a 12-0 run after that and ended up outscoring the Lions 23-5 after the early deficit, winning the final segment 25-13. After splitting midweek games with UNA on Monday and Tuesday, the Lady Bisons came into Allen Arena Friday night ready to defend their home court, and they did just that completing two 3-0 sweeps on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night, the Knights got the first point and kept the first set close exchanging a couple of leads with the Bisons before ultimately falling 25-20. In sets two and three, Lipscomb took control of the match, winning each set by nearly 10 points. Senior outside hitter Megan Kuper led the way in kills for the Bisons finishing the night with 14 kills and a block. Helping out Kuper was freshman Kamryn Bacus, who added 12 kills to the total for the night. Defensively, senior libero Alyssa Zwolensky had a season-high 26 digs. Bellarmine relied on senior middle blocker Izzie Salameh who tallied 8 kills for the Knights. However, Bellarmine was without their star sophomore Hannah Brown who has averaged 2.45 kills/set for the Knights, as she went down with an injury in the first set. On her shortened evening, Brown had 3 kills. Saturday evening was much the same story for both sides as Lipscomb completed the second sweep of the weekend. Bacus continued her hot streak adding 14 kills and two service aces to her Friday night total, but another new star emerged for the Bisons as middle blocker and fellow freshman Meg Mersman finished with 11 kills, a 0.625 attack percentage, and three blocks. For the Knights, they came out much more aggressive Saturday night and capitalized on an off-night from the senior Kuper as well as...

In their 2021 home opener, the Lipscomb Bisons baseball team fell to Creighton 11-4, as the Blue Jays scored four home runs. Debuting their brand new cream uniforms, the Bisons came into the afternoon with a 2-1 record after beating Murray State twice on Monday and falling to Memphis on Tuesday afternoon in Hoover, AL. Junior pitcher Noah Thompson got his first start for the Bisons in nearly two years after missing the shortened 2020 campaign with a foot injury. In his three innings of work, Thompson allowed four hits and five runs off of a sacrifice fly and two home runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Meanwhile, the Bisons could get nothing going offensively as it was nine batters up and nine batters out in the first three innings behind expert pitching from sophomore pitcher Dylan Tebrake. In the fourth inning, the Bisons tried to close the scoring gap behind an offensive surge from senior outfielder Carter Smith and junior infielder Malik Williams that brought three runs home for Lipscomb, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of the Blue Jays. However, this two-run deficit would be as close as the Bisons would get for the rest of the afternoon. Several Bisons pitchers came in in relief, but none could manage to stop the bleeding as Creighton continued to add on runs in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings. Senior infielder Dax Roper led the way for the Blue Jays tallying two hits and two runs on the afternoon including a home run in the eighth. For the Bisons, Williams finished the afternoon 3-4 from the...

After starting their 2020 season with the best 6-0 start in the program’s division one history, COVID-19 brought the promising season to an abrupt halt just 16 games in. Now one year later, after so much anticipation for a Friday season debut, winter weather has further extended the unusually long offseason. Despite the delays, Lipscomb has retained the majority of their roster as well as adding a few new key additions, and the hopes of an ASUN championship are just as high. “I feel like our team is better talent-wise, but so is every other team in the country,” said head coach Jeff Forehand. “Everybody is playing with five classes and a shortened Major League Baseball draft and shortened number of rounds, so there are a lot of players playing college baseball that should be playing professional baseball now. Also, the addition of some older transfer guys is obviously going to make our team better, but the same type of guys have transferred to other teams as well. So college baseball across the board is going to be so much better and so much more improved. For us and our team, we are excited of where we are right now and just looking forward to getting back out there as soon as this snow melts off.” For the Bisons, it all starts and ends with preseason ASUN player of the year senior infielder Haddon Adams. Adams is one of the three seniors who elected to take the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA, joining fellow senior infielders David Graves and Brian Jones. “It’s hard to answer with...
